15th Anniversary of
Nisqually Earthquake
Looking Back and Looking Forward
Today, Feb 28, marks 15 years since the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that shook up Seattle. There was lots of media coverage marking the event. While some stories revisited those scary moments, others looked ahead to what’s in work to be better prepared for the next “Big One”.
In the Seattle Times, science writer Sandi Doughton provides a look at the upcoming Cascadia Rising regional earthquake drill, which will exercise all levels of governmental response; city, county, state and regional resources. As an “assist”, the Seattle Times Marketing Department put together a different look at preparedness items for your emergency kit; there are some cool new solar tools, and it’s the first time I’ve see whiskey listed as a kit necessity. That list is in their “shopNW” section of Feb 28, 2016; view it here.
The local FOX News affiliate, Channel 13, carried a story about the Nisqually anniversary as well, and featured one of our Hub Captains, Sharonn Meeks. She described what her building went through (14 foot motion!) and talked about the importance off neighbors working together. Read or watch the full story here.
