Community Preparedness by Neighborhood
Seattle has many active and engaged neighborhood groups that work together for outreach, common causes and community betterment. The Seattle Emergency Communication Hubs organization was created to assist in preparing neighbors and the community at large to deal with severe weather and situational emergencies that occur in our PNW region.
Do you know where your local Seattle Emergency Hub is located? If not, check out our NeighborLink Map to determine which Emergency Hub is closest to your home and work locations.
We can help your group or community organization pick a location as a central gathering space in the event of an emergency. Your neighborhood group or committee would determine an outdoor spot without risk of falling objects (for example: a park, parking lot, or street corner. Keep in mind that buildings, bridges and other architectural structures may not be structurally safe following an earthquake. Traditional modes of communication may be unavailable or off line, hence the need for preparedness and safety planning on an individual and family level.
