Natural Disasters – PNW Region Fire Awareness & Containment

PNW Region Fire Zones & Safety Codes

In a really serious emergency, a basic rule of thumb is for people to be able to take care of each other for 3 to 7 days before help arrives. At a minimum, that’s just three days—think of it as a long weekend—or nine meals. That would be the minimum size and should be something that you can grab and go should there be an evacuation. City services will be impacted, so plan ahead and be aware!

If You’re Just Getting Started:

  • Put 2-3 gallons of bottled water in your car.
  • Select a phone number and e-mail of someone who lives out of your local area, and put that information on paper for each family member to carry with them. (messages may get through to your out-of-area contact. Try texting if voice calls don’t work.)
  • Buy an A-B-C fire extinguisher at the hardware store and put it in your home.
  • Offer to exchange emergency contact information with neighbors.
  • Select places your family can meet if you are separated and phones are down: for example at a corner near your home, at a local neighborhood park, and/or a specific location out-of-town. Make sure each family member knows where to meet.

If an area of the city is evacuated, any Seattle Emergency Hubs in that area, we will not set up, we will have to evacuate will all others. So make sure you are ready, you can work with your neighbors to help get out and you have your emergency plan in place.

The design and development of the Theme was created by a team of 5 students at Seattle Central Community College over a 4 month period.
